voting day

What We Do Is Secret film

as i write this, i’m watching the SNL presidential bash. part of me is happy the election season is coming to a close and part of me is sad to have it be over.

while i’m writing about voting, i’ve got to weigh in on how i feel about early voting. i think early voting is totally LAME. it should only be for people who are going to be out of town or unable to get to the polls on the actual ELECTION day. it’s called election day for a reason.

i’m tired of people saying they aren’t going to vote because they don’t like either candidate. i know that’s a fair statement, but NOT voting isn’t really an option to me.

the thing is - we all get one vote. and how you use it is solely your business. history will be made in this election; you should be part of it no matter how you cast your ballot.

i’m headed out to the polls later today. will you join me?

p.s. did you know you can’t buy alcohol in utah on election day? i rescind my comment about early voting. next year i’m gonna get really smashed on the cheapest champagne i can find and go early vote. i might vote for something really silly while i’m drunk.

Bridge here now… I am all about early planning. NOT EARLY VOTING… I totally visited the liquor store last night to buy wine so I could drink it up BEFORE I go vote. HEHEHE. Get me drunk enough and I might switch to Republican. HAHAHA. Never! Not being able to buy beer on election day in Utah is like not being able to buy beer on Sunday. LAME. Anyways… I had my relatives call me from France to tell me to vote. They were really concerned about the election. Many of us do not realize how much our country’s election impacts other countries.

I hope you all have studied up and are ready to vote! If you are undecided and in a swing state vote for Obama for me as my vote in Utah doesn’t count.

Al here… and coming into the convo late. But whatever. I like early voting. In fact, I voted early. HOWEVER it was because I was supposed to be out of town today. I think early voting is especially important in this years election. Seriously, can you imagine what the polling lines would be like if people hadn’t voted early? We had over 80,000 people in my county cast early ballots. And when I went, the line was 20 minutes long. Translate that to 80,000 more people voting on election day still with the same number of polling stations… You get the picture.

Further, you cannot purchase package liquor anywhere in NM until after the polls close. I’m glad that’s the case. I think people should have all of their wits about them when voting. Regardless of whether I disagree with their wits or not. Plus, when you have ballots as long as ours, and paper, you really NEED to have all of your faculties in place to make sure you’re voting like you planned.

/sigh…

Let’s start a revolution to get rid of the electoral college. Then we won’t have to worry about having the person who loses the popular vote win the election. It’s shit. But the problem is that most people don’t even know what the electoral college is or what exactly they do. That HAS to change. Will you join me?

Hey I heard on the news that they changed the law. Am I wrong? Probably still can’t go to the liquor store but I think you can be served a beer if you want one. I wasn’t really paying that much attention so check it out for your self and let me know! I am voting!!

Both of you are hysterical. Since I don’t drink, take an extra swig for me before you go vote! BTW, my 5 year old is SURE Obama is going to win. He’s just positive about it. He doesn’t even want to talk about McCain.

It only changed in Salt Lake; Cache County still has the old law.

I’m pretty sure the liquor store is still closed on e-day in Salt Lake. Here are my feelings about early voting: I can’t trust that those votes actually get counted, cause I know they only bother counting absentee votes if the numbers are so close that they might make a difference. Lame. Every vote should count, and that means there should be no more electoral college. Because in red Utah, it doesn’t matter if you vote dem or repub — either way your vote doesn’t count. The decision is already made. It’s pretty lame.

I’m putting on my shield here to protect me from all the crap that will be flung at me. I have never voted.

annika - i’ll have to do more homework on that.

erin - jake LOVES politics. he hated hillary though. didn’t think a woman could be president. unless it was me. whatever.

max - excellent proper usage of the semi-colon. bravo!

sra - electoral college is totally lame. it served its purpose once, but now it should die.

hillary - refresh my memory: you vote for the prime minister, right?

nan - i’ll not throw poop. let today be the first time you vote. vote no on prop 1 and vote yes for all the utah constitutional amendments. and then vote for your candidates of choice. voila!

I voted, but not drunk. HAHAHA. Here you all thought I was a deviant. HAHAHA.

    Get out there and vote!

I’m with Al the electoral college is a joke. WTF. If the popular vote doesn’t count then are we truly a democracy? I voted today as well. It was empowering. My vote may not make a difference in the presidential race but it counts on a local level and that makes me feel better.

I voted last Thursday. I didn’t realize that was bad.

i am a traditionalist [no that's not a political party] i think all things should be done on the day they were intended and if the electoral votes would be divided according to the percentage of the popular vote it would make much more sense. here in utah at least some of us could feel like our vote counted!

I am totally pro-choice on alcohol. No middle of the road for me there.

I am so happy that the president that will hold office HAS WON both the electoral and popular vote. SUCK on THAT one, “W.”
