overeating: when do YOU eat the most?

Published by jess at 11:45 am under jess

cricket posted a few days ago about combating overeating triggers. it really got me thinking about my own triggers…

i tend to eat when i’m alone. NOT because i’m lonely, but because i am alone. i don’t like people watching me when i eat, and i don’t like people to know WHAT i eat, or how MUCH i eat. paul works nights, so when he leaves, i start to feel…like i should eat, because he’s gone. and if no one sees me eat it…then the calories really don’t count, right?

and typically, because no one is around to see exactly what i’m stuffing my face with, i’ll eat potato chips if they are in the house. i’ll eat candy. i LOVE those cherry cordial hershey’s kisses. no gross squishy cherry, just cherry-flavored creamy goodness in the center. and i don’t even like cherries! i’ll eat a piece of cheese. or maybe 4 of them. i’ll have a beer if i can’t fall asleep. or a glass of wine. or two. after all…no one is watching!

i do fairly well during the business week, although i have a really hard time eating breakfast. turns out coffee or diet dew is NOT breakfast. i wish someone had told me this a long time ago. saturdays are usually ok, but i like to drink on saturday evenings. sundays are the worst. i’ll make cookies and brownies “for the kids” and i’ll make chip dip “for paul and the kids” and i’ll eat everything in sight.

all day long.

and then i beat myself up for it. and spend a week vowing THIS WEEKEND WILL BE DIFFERENT.

and then it’s not.

and i’m mad at myself again. and then it starts all over again.

and you thought i was perfect. :)

Stumble it!

Ug. I eat alone all the time. Mainly out of boredom. :S

I could eat the fridge each evening in a huge munch fest. Right before bed is hard for me, even if I’ve done well and not eaten too much/little all day. I don’t understand it.

I eat the most right before I start my period. Sweet and salt.

Weekends are the worst. Especially living here in a really small town with nothing really much going on.

Yeah the weekends are the worse for me too Jess. I can stay on track because I get myself into a good routine but the weekend comes, I stay up late, wake up late and totally get out of rythmn.

Weekends are diet killers! Seriously, I often think about far along I’d be today if I hadn’t consistently screwed things up on the weekends.

Don’t let Dave fool you! He stays up late EVERY night! I seriously do not know how he even functions on such little sleep. I eat when I’m happy. I’ve been overweight ever since I got married! wink wink

Early mornings. I could down a two pound bag of swedish fish and a 2 L bottle of diet coke without looking. I need me some AM sugar.

Jess… I have the same thing. I hate having people watch me eat as well.

    /sigh

Luckily nothing really is on my diet that is considered “snack” food so I am doing pretty well with no snacking. I am hungry and grouchy though.

if i could stay busy, or was never alone i wouldn’t eat at all…. i am what i call a “closet” eater. i eat thousands of things when no one is around to see me ~ whole bag of chips, whole bag of candy, whole cake, whole half gallon of ice cream…. i can’t have that stuff in the house, i have no self control. i buy the small bag of chips and a ben and jerrys size container of ice cream, that way if i do eat the whole thing it’s not [quite] so bad…. what i need to do is get off my lazy ass and then it wouldn’t matter what i eat!

    nan - he’s a vampire?

blc - oh i love me the swedish fish. they carry them in a ginormous 5 lb bag at sam’s club. with a ziplock top no less.

fri_yet - where the eff have you been??? and yes…i’m the closet eater, too.

I overeat on everything…I still eat like I’m eating for two!

  14. Mellyon 14 Feb 2008 at 3:18 pm

And I eat late at night…sometimes I find myself going downstairs to eat after everyone has gone to bed, that’s pretty sad…

I eat out of boredom, too. Lately, I’ve really tried hard to ask myself, “am I hungry” before I eat/snack. 9 times out of 10 I’m just bored or thirsty. And 9 times out of 10, who cares because Cool Ranch Doritos are awesome.

In all seriousness though, this is a great post.
