Attention all alcoholics!

Published by Bridge at 2:49 pm under bridge, my two cents

Yes it is official… You can buy beer in Cache Valley on Sundays. You do have to drive about 10 minutes to the town of Nibley, but it was worth the drive.

I went and tried it out for myself yesterday with some local blogger friends McKenzie and Craig. You can read what they said about it on their blog.

I am very happy. I have hated this stupid law ever since I turned 21. For anyone that doesn’t live in Utah you should know that Utah liquor laws are insane. This is drawing a lot of controversy here in my community. I guess some people are offended that you can buy such a sinful product such a beer on the Sabbath.

I say too bad. You haven’t hear me complaining about anyone buying green jello on Wednesdays have you? Did you realize that many people in my state mix green jello with carrots?

Offended yet?

See why they shouldn’t sell green jello on Wednesdays? LOL. Alright I am kidding. I am just trying to make my point. The no buying beer on Sunday is not a very rational law. It is actually very prejudiced to anyone that drinks beer. One group of people in our community is just trying to control what another group does. I say shame on them.

On the other hand, I do understand the law that restricts the sale of liquor/beer after 1 a.m. That was put in place for a very rational reason. Last thing we need is a group of drunks driving to the store at 2 a.m. to get more beer. I have no problem with that law staying in place.

I can only hope now that other cities in my community start selling beer on Sundays. What are your thoughts?

Stumble it!

About f@cking time, to bad I am not there to partake in the buying of beer on sunday. Its so nice not to have to drive to Idaho to get a 6 pack or case of beer. ENJOY!!!!!

Beer is bad, and you are bad for buying beer. I look down at you and your evil friends. Are you ready to get trashed, I mean….are you ready to eat Caviar and drink Evian, at my party this weekend?

I hear, though, that PA has the same sort of laws; e.g., only being able to purchase liquor in a State liquor store. It’s what I hear. I have NONE of those crazy restrictions here. Except I have to wait until NOON on Sunday. NOON- football has already started. What kind of crap is that?
Still, not as bad as UT.
    Good for Nibley!

    My identity! It’s exposed!

That was a fun little trip, we’ll have to do it again.

Before Nibley gets too much credit, it should be noted that this is only legal because Nibley basically forgot to include the Sunday ban in its ordinances. So it could revert to the Utah status quo any day.

I say let the alcoholics have their beer any time they damn well please! If they want it bad enough, their gonna get it anyway. Wouldn’t it be safer for them to provide it locally than to be on the road more (like driving to Idaho and back) to go get it?? It’s discrimination!

um al…i should point out that if you have to wait until noon, that’s worse than utah…b/c this no beer on sunday is NOT a utah ordinance. it’s a cache valley ordinance (and other counties, too). but there are places you can buy it on sunday in utah.

and…there are some completely DRY counties in alabama, meaning you cannot buy beer ever. not even on friday. at noon. when the bells ring. and the chickens cluck.

I went to Canada in 2005 and tried to buy beer at a convenience store, after the laughing ended I was told to go to the local government owned “Beer Store” which was only open regular bank hours, Utah isn’t so bad.

Sunday was never intended to be the Sabbath; traditionally, the Sabbath has always been Saturday, which is the 7th day (the day on which God rested). Christians celebrate on Sunday because that is traditionally held to be the day on which Christ rose from the dead.

So suck it, blue laws, even God isn’t on your side.

Bah… that’s nothing… in many places here, it’s illegal to sell non-essentials (basically anything that’s not groceries) before 1:30PM on Sundays. The idea being to push people to go to church.

I’m Christian — but even I think that most blue laws are idiotic…

I didnt know such a lame law existed but I should not be surprised either. I am thankful for the more open laws that exist in Europe. There may be pretty much nothing open on Sundays when it comes to shopping but you can always rely on your local pub to supply the hops.

You know… If they shut down almost everything I would have no problem on the Sunday alcohol ban. Then it wouldn’t be so biased.

Most stores used to be shut on Sundays. People used to freak out and tell the owners that they wouldn’t shop at the store at all if it was open on Sunday.

    Things have changed.

Most of the stores that are open on Sundays seem to be doing great. It does help that a lot of big chain stores have come into this valley.

FYI… I like to go to new movies on Sundays. Half the crowd and I can get a good seat. I love it.

  13. [...] think she’s talking about you Craig, MacKenzie and Bridge! You are taking Nibley down an “undesirable path” and allowing “this new beer [...]
