Bath overnight trip… Part Two: Stonehenge

Published by Bridge at 1:05 am under al, bridge, now blow me posting month

(I’LL GIVE YOU ONE GUESS… STONE FREAKING HENGE!)

(THE GRIN ON AL PRETTY MUCH SUMS UP THE ENTIRE POST.)

Words are not enough to explain the feeling one has at Stonehenge. My first glance of it and tears started running down my cheeks. It was automatic. There are a few things I have wanted to see my entire life and Stonehenge is one of them. I was SO excited I didn’t want the listening tour because I didn’t want ANYTHING to mar my experience (not that the listening tour would mar the experience, I just really wanted to EXPERIENCE Stonehenge). When I was first able to see the henge in all it’s glory… I stood there, stunned. Unmovable. Possibly crying. Secretly wondering if I was special enough to ‘feel the buzz’ b/c we were super close to the equinox. I’m not. Or at least I’m not from the fenced off distance. Bridge isn’t either. /sigh

(THE GRIN HERE DOES TOO.)

(LOOK WE EVEN GOT SOMEONE TO TAKE OUR PHOTO TOGETHER. CAN I BE CARRYING ANY MORE CRAP AROUND MY NECK? THINK I CARED? I WAS AT STONEHENGE!)

At the site there are a lot of other people there with you, but at the same time I felt very alone. Al and I really wish we could have gone into the inner circle. To go into the inner circle you have to go on a private tour that is held first thing in the morning or the last tour at night. I really tried to make it happen, but we were lucky to even get an overnight tour to Bath. We also didn’t get very much time at Stonehenge. Well not enough for us. I think I took 150 photos of the site by itself. I would have liked to stay longer. Seriously! We only had a megear 45 minutes here. It was no where near enough time. Next time, I’m renting a car, getting the dawn tour and hitting the other, lesser known henges in the area, too.

Next time…

(SO WHAT SHOULD ONE DO WHEN ONE IS VACATIONING? ACT LIKE A STUPID TOURIST? HELL YEAH! IF ONLY THERE WAS A BUILDING TO PRETEND TO HOLD UP… OH, WAIT, THERE IS! HOW FUN.)

(WE COULD ALSO PRETEND TO HOLD AN OBJECT… WAIT! WE DID!!!)

(LOOK HOW COOL THIS STONE IS! PACKING MY LENS THE ENTIRE TRIP WAS WORTH IT FOR THIS SHOT ALONE.)

(LOOKING THROUGH TWO SETS OF STONE. PRETTY MUCH AWSOME. I THINK OUR ACTUAL SET OF STONEHENGE PHOTOS NUMBERED AT AROUND 140 PICTURES. I AM NOT LYING. BE THANKFUL I AM NOT POSTING ALL OF THEM.)

Stumble it!

I guess my only thought is why don’t they take better care of the grass. It looks like my front lawn. I think I’ll build myself a henge just to show them how its done. Those Brits just don’t take very good care of their antiquities.
Seriously guys, I am enjoying the trip report. Thanks for sharing.

I would like to point out that no alcohol was involved in Bridge & Al’s Henging of the Stone. Will wonders never cease?

    Fantastic shots, Bridge.
