Bath overnight trip… Part One: Windsor Castle

Published by Bridge at 1:05 am under al, bridge, now blow me posting month

I really want to keep everything in chronological order so when I look back in years to come I can remember what we did and when. Too much drinking leads to memory loss… The next post will be about Stonehenge, and Stonehenge really must have its own post. Otherwise I would have combined this entire trip.

The trip we went on to the city of Bath was marvelous. Our tour company picked us up near our hotel at an ungodly hour of 7:30 A.M. Then we thought we were going to die before we even got to the meeting point. Riding in a tour bus in the city of London down one way streets and going around round-a-bouts on the wrong side of the road was just crazy. I am still surprised that the bus made it around some of the corners. I’ve never been car sick before but this was just too much.

If you only knew how hard it was for me to get an overnight tour to the city of Bath. It was a total pain in the butt. Apparently this tour is no longer offered. IT IS NO LONGER OFFERED BY ANY TOUR COMPANY. Our tour company made an exception to this for us. One tour took us there, and another one the next day brought us back. We just had to make sure we met the tour guide at a certain time and we wouldn’t be stranded. We were the only people doing an overnight tour. Lucky us! Those other poor schmoes that only went on the day tour really, REALLY missed out!

Our first stop was a surprise to Al and me. I knew we had a stop, but the company couldn’t tell me which one it was. I also didn’t remember the options they had given me, so I couldn’t tell Al. The tour company had two buses leaving that day and it just depended on which one had room for us. It was fun getting on the bus and finding out we were going to Windsor Castle.

Windsor Castle was a lovely stop. Since we ended up not going into Buckingham Palace it was nice to at least go inside Windsor. We had prepaid for our tour and this stop was included. At the castle they give you a headphone tour. Tour guides are not allowed to guide you through. The tour takes you through the state rooms. You also get to go into the Cathedral. This is where King Henry the VIII’s and his wife Jane Seymour are buried. Al at this point made some comment to me if I wanted to make sure he is really dead. I laughed, and then I walked over the plaque. If I am later haunted by his ghost you all know why.

Then we all got back on our bus to go to Stonehenge!

(HERE IS AL TRYING TO GET INTO WINDSOR CASTLE TO SEE PRINCE WILLIAM. Damn and blast, he promised he’d either be here or at Buckingham. Lying bastard!)
