Trapped Ashes on dvd

Tonight I had the opportunity to watch Jess be totally frazzled. There were way to many around 16 party animals girls at Jess’ house for her daughter’s birthday party.

Have you ever been around that many girls at a birthday party? I know I have, and it makes you nuts. Anyways, most of the girls wanted to play with Jess’ dogs. They came upstairs a few zillion times. When Jess finally got them watching a movie they wanted popcorn. This is where the fun started. I swear these girls ate their body weight in popcorn. Jess made around 8 HUGE bowls of it. My favorite part was that Jess continually forgot to put the lid type thing back on the popcorn machine and popcorn started flying through her kitchen. After it happened FOUR TIMES I made sure she put it on. Trust me… watching her do it four times was totally worth the drive to her house.

I hope you get some de-stress time on Sunday Jess. Your weekend is way too packed.

My friend Danette just opened an Etsy shop. She is making pants out of recycled sweaters! Look how freaking adorable!

danette

Please visit her shop and tell anyone you know that would like a pair. I am honestly amazed by anyone who can sew. Last time I sewed I ended up in the Emergency Room from a sewing machine needle that broke and hit my eye.

Al gets interviewed….

Published by Al under too lazy to categorize

Awhile ago fri_yet

Slippery Slope the movie

Relative Strangers on dvd

Rumor Has It… movies

Basic Instinct 2 film

had this on her blog and Al wanted in. She finally got around to sending Al the questions.
1. In short write a paragraph interconnecting the following in no particular order: My tattoo, how drunk I would have to be to sing [insert a song title here] in a karaoke bar, bungee jumping on a first date, getting drunk on champagne, the white owl, sleeping under the stars and why I am a crazy cat lady.
Boy, this one is HARD! A paragraph interconnected these totally disconnected things! Thanks Fri_yet! How about I’ll make one up?

First, Al doesn’t consider herself a crazy cat lady. She only has one cat who makes her crazy with his forcing her to be a doorwoman or get her ass out of bed at 3 am after an especially crazy chamgpagne drunk to let him in. On that particular night, the champagne flowed like tap water. Al hates champagne. It doesn’t taste good. Which makes it easier to pass up getting tattoos while drunk. Al got her first tattoo (which may also be considered her second) from a USU college boyfriend who wanted to do tats in his spare time. THEN the next guy Al dated paid for her to get it extended (he drew up the extension) right before she left him to go to grad school. And man, did Al drink in grad school. But she never did get drunk enough to sing ‘Me and Bobby McGee (her favorite karoke song) but instead pulled a sweet 5finger discount on Vader. AND none of the bars in the GWN even came close to the awesomeness of sipping a 3.2 beer on the deck of the Owl. Al puts that experience 2nd on her list of great things to do in CV (seeing her family is 1st) and bungee jumping on a first date is 3rd. Seriously, she’s fairly positive she wouldn’t have been able to get up the cojones to step off that platform if it wasn’t to impress some boy. But believe Al when she says she’d do it again in a second and doesn’t do those sorts of things to impress boys anymore. That guy set the bar HIGH! In fact, that guy and Al once went camping and slept under the stars. In fact, b/c she’s in NM, she’s gearing up for the camping season already and is totally looking forward to beers by a fire and sleeping under the stars. There are a few great places here where the light pollution is very low and the night sky is strongly reminiscent of the one in Newton, UT.

2. You say you read other blogs ~ prove it…. Tell us about some of your favs
I HEART, HEART, HEART PostSecret. I secretly (you heard it here first, folks) want to come up with a secret and send it the Frank. Some of my other favs are PassiveAgressiveNotes (always fun reads and people are total assholes!), The OverThinker

download About Schmidt

Speed 2: Cruise Control full

(of course!), I love her silliness (worrying herself to a coronary since 1977! funny everytime), BipolarLawyerCook

Perfect Creature movie

has great poems, stories about subway rides and awesome recipes. I wish Doug would post more, too. I’ve been waiting for a new post FOR-EVER!
I also have a few family members that have blogs. And while I love them, they mostly talk about their kids (which allows me to keep up) but they don’t really ever SAY anything.

3. So…. In your opinion, did the rug tie the room together?
well, since it’s still here, i’m going with yes.

4. Why Moab and for that matter, why New Mexico?
well, moab is easy. it’s close. there’s awesome outdoor activities and the last trip i took there was F-R-E-E. can’t complain about that.
NM is more complicated but it breaks down like this:
-friend @ school at USU has family in NM
-Al is searching for a reason to get the eff out of CV
-friend wants to transfer to uber-small tech school
-Al abides
-huge argument
-Al moves to ABQ & finishes degree and falls in love w/NM in process
-Al goes to the Great White North and HATES IT
-Al needs a job (after finishing other degree) and doesn’t want to move back to UT under any circumstances and wants to go somewhere she feels comfortable.
-voila!

buy Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin’ Down a Dream

5. Are you still active in The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or have you found another religious calling?
Al’s religious beliefs still tend towards the FSM but she feels herself being called in a different direction. She feels she needs to start her own religion because none of those present on the planet are true. AND she’d really like to piss off a couple of self-righteous bastards in the process.

Ok, so to continue the meme follow these instructions:
1. Leave Al a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. Al will respond by emailing you five questions. Al gets to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

b'dass

Published by jess under jess

i have no blogging fodder as of late, evidenced by my interview post yesterday and now this… a post idear stolen given to me by hillary A Nightmare on Elm Street buy . basically, i have to write about ten things i love and they all have to start with the letter “b.” hillary assigned me this letter (she did give me a choice between two letters, because she’s so effing super!) and here i go. honestly, i hope i can make it to ten at this point.

1. baklava.

i still remember the first place i tried baklava. it was at the straw ibis (that is what caffe ibis used to be called…did you know that?) and i saw these little pastries in the glass case. caffe ibis is a local coffee shop and roasting company. they have things like vegan cookies, kinder chocolates and baklava. i adore pistachio baklava. i recently attempted to make baklava, and it was really good, but i’ve got some changes i want to make to my recipe. i’m not crazy about cinnamon and this had a lot of cinnamon in it. it also didn’t have enough phyllo, and that is what really makes baklava good. layers and layers of crispy phyllo. i’ll post a recipe on no measurements when i perfect it a bit.

2. blogging and reading blogs.

truly i love blogging. even better than blogging itself is reading YOUR blog. i have fallen off the blogging planet, you may have noticed. the truth is that i’ve been enjoying facebook and twitter a whole lot more. it seems i’m incapable of processing more than 140 characters at any given moment. even though i haven’t left a comment on your blog, or written much here, i’ve read your stuff. i read from my phone often. sometimes in meetings. don’t tell anyone. ha!

3. bread.

oh mah heck do i lurve me some bread. wheat, white, dill, onion, whatever. give me the baked goodness. the fresher the better. the squishier the better. BRING IT ON. I LOVE BREAD. my stomach, unfortunately, looks like the stomach of a girl who loves bread. so not fair. i found a fabulous recipe for wheat bread (thanks, bob!) that my family loves. i love the potato dill bread at great harvest and i also love their asiago sourdough bread. i could eat bread for every meal.

4. butter.

it goes with number three. and margarine is just wrong on four million levels. butter is amazing browned and poured over spaghetti. butter is amazing on bread. it’s amazing on fresh veggies. it’s good with garlic on a giant steak. I LOVE BUTTER. it rounds out pan sauces. i’ve even made my own butter before. butter was put here on earth because god loves us. and he gave us bread so we can have a vehicle for butter.

5. bitches.

this one has duplicate meanings. my bitches know who they are. i love you gals. life would really suck ass without you.

the second meaning is my dogs. i LOVE my dogs stormy and chewy. cooper is a boy, so he’s not a bitch, but i don’t love him any less.

6. burt’s bees lip balm

surely my lips would have fallen off my face by now if you didn’t exist. burt’s is the only lip balm that really works for me. i highly recommend it if you haven’t tried it, and it’s worth the $4 or so each one costs. the original is kind of minty and i really love the pomegranate one. seriously, try it. you won’t be sorry.

7. babies.

i do not want any more babies. but i sure love to hold other people’s babies. babies are pure and innocent and adorable. i love the tiny little clothes. i love they way they laugh. i love they way they explore. i love that most are bald. babies rule.

8. birthdays.

really, i’m talking about my own birthday here. kids’ birthdays are just from hell. the kids have a blast, i spend a buttload of money, have too many kids over to my house, and have a big mess to clean up afterwards. i don’t really mind getting older now that i am older than thirty. every year is another year of laughter and good things. it’s another year to celebrate my life with family and friends. birthdays rule. and so does birthday cake.

9. books.

i would die without books. i love love LOVE to read. the stand by stephen king is really good. i’m currently reading the kite runner. i was halfway through to kill a mockingbird, but the library called and told me i had to bring it back b/c it was on hold. i’ve only had it for the last two months or so. ha! yes, the librarian phoned me. this is the advantage of living in a small town.

10. bed.

that is where i’m going now. i love my bed. i love to curl up under my down comforter in my 400 count sheets and sleep. i wish i could sleep better, but perhaps i should learn to embrace my insomnia. maybe if i succumb to it, it won’t own me?

ok, your turn. if you want to play, let me know and i’ll send you a letter. woot. show me some comment luv.

an interview with jess

Published by jess under jess

recently, i was interviewed by outdoor annika

The Human Stain on dvd

. well, not so recently, but i’m just getting around to it now. basically, i agreed to be interviewed, she asked me five questions.

i am posting those five questions and my answers below.

1. Everyone talks about Bunco please tell me, why all the excitement?

Save the Last Dance 2 divx

Bleach: Memories of Nobody

this is an easy one. bunco is a sure thing every month. we get to have dinner and tons of fun with 11 other ladies. for the most part, these are ladies i don’t see on a regular basis. this year my sister-in-law started playing, so that’s been fun. and i play with a few great friends, too. the other girls i really like, but we don’t work together and our paths seldom cross outside of bunco each month. it’s always fun to see what the other ladies make for dinner and buy for prizes. it’s a girls’ night out - no husbands allowed. and it’s good clean fun, too.

2. What is your most favorite thing to make for your family to eat? Ultraviolet divx

honestly, i like to cook so much i don’t have a real favorite. my favorite things to make are the things they love the most. most of you know i have stepkids…and while i don’t love being a stepmom, i do love making them good things to eat. i often let them pick what they want on the weekends they live with us. if i have to pick a few, i like to make my own spaghetti sauce and i like to make soup, any kind. paul and the kids love soup. i don’t like to cook things that are a lot of work that they hate to eat and will bitch about - that’s just a guaranteed set up for failure.

3. Who is your favorite doctor on Nip/Tuck?

first of all, i have to say i had a major fight with my DVR. it forgot to record nip/tuck’s second episode this season, and then stupid f/x didn’t have it on again, so i haven’t even watched an episode of this season yet. also, last season was so disturbing, i got major grossed out and don’t even think i got through the entire season. i never thought i’d say that, but it was sick! anyway. my favorite doctor is christian. for a few reasons…first, he is hawter than hell. i like that he’s damaged. you know he had a craptastic past but he’s still professionally successful. his personal life is a wreck, but at work, he’s at the top of his game. i felt like this for a few years, but i finally feel like my personal life is as good as my work life.

4. Besides Diet Dew what is your next biggest weakness? Sam Kinison: Breaking the Rules download

crap, just one? i’d have to say i’m addicted to tv and to the Internet. if i had to, i’d give up tv because i can watch it online. i recently joined netflix and i’m hooked on the office now. i’ve got weeds and arrested development in my queue. sheesh. tv, i shake my fist in your general direction.

5. What made you fall for your current husband? a second time you dated in high school right?

i have loved paul for a very long time. we were very close in high school, although we went on like one date, i think. we used to spend hours talking on the phone late at night, even though we were often dating someone else. we graduated from high school and i went to college; he did not. we lost touch. i never really thought he was all that serious about me and vice versa. i was reunited with paul after i ran into his sister in law and she told me he was single. i drove by his parents house every single day, twice a day, to drop off and pick up my kids at the babysitter’s house. he waited outside for me for three days in a row before our schedules aligned and i saw him. i stopped…rolled down the window.he looks at my daughter and says, “she looks just like you.” and then he looked at me and said, “your eyes are still so beautiful.” and i wanted to throw up. so instead i invited him over for a beer and he NEVER LEFT. i’m not kidding. well, there was that one time, but we don’t talk about that. :)

the thing about paul is that his heart is really made of pure gold. he’s truly my knight in shining armor. he’ll do almost anything i ask him to, but he’s not a doormat. he makes me laugh, he takes good care of me. he’s the guy who spreads his cloak over a puddle of water for the princess. :)

so now, you. do you want to be interviewed? here’s how it works:

1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
