Resolution Reflection

Published by Al under too lazy to categorize

‘Tis the season for reflection and as I’m sitting here drinking beer and watching the tele I started to think about the resolutions that I would like to make for next year, which made me think about the resolutions I made for THIS year and I wondered how I was doing.

I had to go back and look at my post to figure out what my resolutions actually were Taps release R’coon Dawg full movie

. How effed up is that? I don’t even remember what MY resolutions for aught eight were.

Let’s take a look back to January, shall we?

1. Run a half-marathon.
this was a no go. I was doing well early this year then I went out into the field for 11 hr days from February until May. THEN I had the ankle issue… Julius Caesar movie
I’m working toward this one in 2009. I already ran a 5k (28 minutes), and am training w/a few friends for the Durango 1/2 Marathon in June.
2. Get out of my house more, and not just for work. I’m talking about socializing n’ shit (this one may be the most difficult)
I have gotten better about this, but it’s usually been w/JEB or the same group of friends. I need to meet new people and make new friends.
3. Figure out how to meet people. Seriously, can anyone tell me how people meet people? Maybe part of my problem is that I don’t do #2 very often.
I’ve got friends who’ve tried the ‘platonic’ section on Craig’s List and maybe it’s worked but I can’t do it. Most of those people don’t use proper grammer. I can’t handle that.
4. Read more. Especially books by authors whom I have not yet read. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and re-paid with good karma headed your way.
on Bridge’s suggestion, I read some Dumas and am reading a geology THRILLA by some dude named McPhee… also, joined GoodReads and so get some tidbits here or there (I DO NOT want to read twilight, people)

Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle film

5. Get out of my house more (believe you me, this one bears repeating. Once it’s written, man, I am OBLIGATED.)
gawd damn… i thought this would help (see how i used all caps on obligated?) but it turns out that it really didn’t. can you take lessons to be more extroverted?
6. Blog more. I’d like to start out with the goal of twice a week. That seems reasonable. And totally do-able.
i’m not sure i want to revisit this one. i SWEAR i started out strong and then POOF! just like that, i got busy or lazy or bored or unable to think of things to say.

I think I’ll print this post and hang it somewhere so I can refer to it often and hopefully it will keep me motivated. If you, dear readers, feel at any point during this year, like asking how I’m doing on my resolutions, I will appreciate that as well. i didn’t do any of these things. in fact, my fridge got quite fuddled up with sexy, sexy poetry magnets and i had to take old GWB funnies and pictures of the nieces and nephews off the fridge. so there was definitely no room for a large 2008 resolution print out. Quest For Fire the movie

Anywho- It seems as though my 2009 resolutions will be similar to my 2008 resolutions because i can’t get my shit together enough to follow through. maybe one year i can make it work, though. one year…

digging out

Published by jess under jess

i don’t know how al is doing in new mexico, but here in northern utah, we are covered in inches and inches of snow. good if you are a skier or snowboarder, kinda sucky if you are not.

and in the forecast? MORE SNOW. good hell!

last week, it dumped a good 8 inches on us. i left work a bit early, stopped at lowe’s and bought paul a snowblower. when i brought it home, he expressed concern about the cost and how much we would actually use it.

last night, it was absolute blizzard conditions at our house. we were supposed to drive 17 miles to logan to play christmas games at bridge’s house (it’s tradition!) but decided not to mostly because paul has been ill, but the bad weather certainly sealed the deal. the wind was so loud it thundered around the house and i was grateful for our home and the safety it provides. the wind drifted the snow and before we went to bed, you couldn’t tell where the sidewalk or the driveway were. paul went to take our boxer outside and she looked at him like, “are you nuts? you are kidding me, right? she took two steps outside and did her business right there and ran back in. the shih tzu wouldn’t go out at all; she preferred to use her puppy pad. little shiht. ha ha ha.

this morning, paul was completely thrilled to fire up the snowblower and go outside to wage war on the drifts and piles of snow. he said there were 22 inches of new snow in the driveway. the snowplow had already gone by and there were approximately 40 inches of snow at the end of the driveway. complete mayhem.

in true neighborhood fashion, several people in our neighborhood were out with shovels, 4 wheelers fitted with plows and snowblowers. paul did the sidewalk and driveway of our very elderly widowed neighbor. he wanted to do more, but the snowblower was getting hot and needed a break.

the kids are out sledding. paul is playing wow. the dogs have a place to potty. and the christmas mess is almost cleaned up. i’d say it’s a pretty good day despite the snow.

now THIS is something i might be interested in: a storm trooper kick line! wookies and ewoks singing! woot!

from nme.com:

‘Star Wars: A Musical Journey’ has been signed off by the films’ creator George Lucas, with the two-hour show set to be performed at the London O2 Arena on April 10, reports Eonline.com.

i really like episodes 4, 5 and 6. not enough to see them 47 times or to stand in line for tickets for hours… however, i might be interested in watching star wars: the musical. at least in 3 minute segments on youtube, that is.

what's not on my resume

Published by jess under jess

apparently, hiring departments at some companies have been straight up told to avoid hiring people who play world of warcraft.

from kotaku.com

Barb Wire rip

:

He replied that employers specifically instruct him not to send them World of Warcraft players. He said there is a belief that WoW players cannot give 100% because their focus is elsewhere, their sleeping patterns are often not great, etc. I mentioned that some people have written about MMOG leadership experience as a career positive or a way to learn project management skills, and he shook his head. He has been specifically asked to avoid WoW players.

i can see why this would be a valid concern for some people. however, i don’t think it’s fair to lump all people who play WoW into one category, either, unless that category is WoW Geeks. there are several of us WoW Geeks who manage to stay up all night, but still get to work on time and have regular jobs.

just don’t look at our dirty houses and piles of unfolded laundry and no one gets hurt.

I love this Death Star Cantina bit, but I have to wonder how much time it took these guys to put it to legos? Does anyone else think their effort could have been better utilized. Think, they could have figured out how to get solar and wind energy from the western US to the rest of the country…

this 5k starts at 530 in the evening and the path will be lit with farolitos (or luminarias). traditional new mexican holiday decorations consisting of paper bags filled with sand and a lit candle. they’re quite beautiful and outline a whole slew of buildings and pathways at this time of year. unfortunately, the makers of crap have capitolized on the whole thing and now you can purchase farolitos make of fake plastic bags and lights. CRAP i tell you! quit being so lazy and just light your own.

anywho- i’ll be sure to let all ya’ll know how the race goes. as long as i finish it, i’m good. but my goal is to run it in less than 35 minutes…

so wish me luck and happy sunday!National Treasure rip Barnyard full movie
